Felix Mendelssohn (1809 – 1847)

Born in Hamburg, Germany

He was the younger brother of Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel.

He played the piano. He began giving piano concerts at the age of 10.

He started composing at the age of 12.

Mendelssohn really respected the work of Johann Sebastian Bach and in 1829 he organized a performance of Bach’s music including the choral work St. Matthew Passion. Before Mendelssohn Bach’s works were not performed very often.
